The Fall Collection Preview

The Fall Collection

I thought it might be helpful to give you a full preview of the collection that will launch tomorrow, since launch mornings can be a whirl of throwing things in the card and checking out before they sell out.  This is one of my largest collections including three new block prints, custom pour candles, soaps and lotions, and stationery all in warm autumnal colors and scents.  I hope you find some inspiration for your season.

The Fall Collection will launch tomorrow morning at 8am central.

As autumn approaches, I dream of the mornings when I'll find myself sitting on the back porch while a golden glow pours around the yard, the air is crisp and critters scurry about.  Leaves will flutter down and everything that was once lushly green, is now fading but not without a show.  After living for months in saturated kelly green lawns and bright blue skys, we transition to the in-betweens : the rusts, umbers, chestnut, mossy greens and pale caramels.  The fresh foods of summer fade, too, into nostalgic comforts.  My favorite still will be walks home from school with leaves crunching underfoot and falling overhead.  I'm doing my best not to pack our schedule too tightly, so we intentionally leave room for the small moments, those in-between.  I'll leave a Saturday morning wide open just to drive out to the country to get the best cider donuts in the world, and another day will be set aside for raking leaves and simmering soup.  I love this season of life.

And for those wondering about Mr. Darcy's "too" white chairs...

All is right in his world after the photos are finished.

I'll see you tomorrow morning, bright and early.  I hope you found some things to add to your list : )

Pumpkin Spice Cookies or Whoopie Pies | 1 Recipe, 2 Ways

Once fall hits, I want all of the warm spices - in my coffee, and especially in my baked goods.  I want the scent wafting through my kitchen constantly.  These were a big hit for an after school snack last week.  They are the softest things you've ever had - like pillows.

..........

The Fall Collection

This recipe is a little preview of some new items that will be available Tuesday for the launch of The Fall Collection.  The collection will include three block print linen collections (a little peek of one here), new candles with nostalgic scents, a line of dish soap, counter spray and hand lotions.  I've also sourced new packaging ideas - like the cotton twill tape I used in the packaging above in wonderful autumnal colors.

They are more like the tops of cupcakes than they are cookies, which is why I had the idea to turn them into whoopie pies, as well.

With this one batch, I made a handful of fun whoopie pies to give away as a gift and still had a dozen  cookies to bring to a party that night.  It is a super easy recipe to stir together that will make your kitchen smell like fall.

Soft Pumpkin Spice Cookies with Cream Cheese Frosting

1 cup butter, softened
1 cup brown sugar
1 egg
1 teaspoon vailla extract
1 cup of canned pumpkin
2 cups of flour
1 1/2 teaspoons of cinnamon
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon of baking powder
1/2 teaspoon of salt

.....

1/2 cup of butter (1 stick), softened
2 ounces of cream cheese, softened
2 cups of powdered sugar

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.  Line three Baking Sheets with Parchment Paper.

Cream together butter with brown sugar.  Add egg, vanilla and pumpkin, mix until combined.

Add all dry ingredients : flour, cinnamon soda, powder and salt.  Mix together just until combined.

Using a Small Scoop, scoop out 8 cookies per sheet.  Bake for 13-15 minutes until cooked through.  Cool.

Apple Season | Recipes & Inspiration

I'm unofficially declaring it Apple Week on the blog.  I grew up in an orchard town - many of my friends families operated large scale orchard that grew apples, peaches and cherries.  This past weekend we stopped at a couple of apple markets while we were back home and just the scent of walking in those roadside stands gave me all of the feels.  They don't smell like spiced cider, but like fresh crisp apples.  They smell like back to school, football games and volleyball practice to me.

Here are my favorite Apple Season Recipes :

We made this again over the weekend for the cousins at the school house - and oh my is it good.  I salted it with Maldon Salt Flakes which made it even better.  It doesn't take any time to make, just an attentive 15 minted at the stove, simple ingredients (sugar, water, cream & salt).  Completely worth the small effort.

Individual Apple Cranberry Crisps

I've used this same basic recipe for about 8 years now.  Apples, Cranberries, Orange and Cinnamon.  The combination is just everything.  Ugh, just so good.  Don't skip the orange zest, it does magical things.  I just the same recipe for big crisps, individual crisps or little tarts.

This new version (same recipe) is made in individual Stoneware Ramekins.  I love this for our little family because it is a small portion that will be gone after one sitting - no big dessert to "need" to finish hanging around.  If you don't have ramekins, you can use these individual disposable tart pans.  They work great for a party, individual portions already assembled, just have to be warmed and topped with ice cream.

Individual Apple Cranberry Crisps
(makes 4)

Filling :
3 apples
1/4 cup of fresh (or frozen) cranberries
1 teaspoon of orange zest
2 tablespoons of orange juice
2 tablespoons of sugar
1 tablespoon of flour
1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon

Crumble Toping :

2/3 cup of flour
1/4 cup of brown sugar
pinch of salt
4 tablespoons of butter, cold

Peel and core the apples and cut them in 1/2" pieces.  Place them in a large bowl.  Add cranberries, zest, juice, sugar, flour and cinnamon.  Toss together until all well coated.  Divide filling amongst 4 ramekins or small tart pans.

For Crumble topping, in a small bowl add flour, brown sugar and salt.  Mix together with a fork.  Cut butter into small pieces and add to flour mix.  With the fork, smash butter into the flour until combined.  You can also squeeze it together with your hands to form the crumbly mixture.  Once combined, crumble a handful of it on top of each ramekin with apple filling.

Place on a parchment lined baking sheet (to make for easy cleanup) and bake for 25-35 minutes until bubbly and browned.

Serve warm with ice cream.  If you are making them ahead, wrap with plastic wrap and refrigerate.  Unwrap and microwave to warm.

It's Apple Season in the store.  I've grouped all of my favorite apple season essentials for your baking pleasure :
