A "Real" Brunch (with kids!) at Our House

Last week I posted about a "Real" Mid-Week dinner we hosted.  It was casual and laid back, the type of 'entertaining' most of us do... you know, normal!  I thought I'd share another "Real" party we hosted - brunch with some of our college friends that were in from St. Louis.  It was a cold and rainy Saturday morning and our house was filled with kiddos, friends, coffee... and scones.  It is GREAT being home : )

Menu :

Cinnamon Swirled Scones with Maple Glaze & Pecans
Cranberry Orange Scones
White Cheddar & Chive Egg Strata
Fresh Fruit
Orange Juice

I tried a new scone that was swirled with cinnamon then topped with a glaze made with real Vermont maple syrup and pecans.  Really, really good.

"G" hard at work coloring pictures for everyone.  I love the concentration as he's working.  So sweet.

The table was set verrrry simply with just juice, butter and water... with 3 kids and 6 adults at our tiny table, there was definitely not room for any flowers.

Little "P" being a boy : )

White Cheddar and Chive Egg Strata - I love anything that can be made the night before.  Mike had requested that we fry bacon, so I kept the strata simple - sans sausage.  The white cheddar and chives made it really delicious.  Sometimes keeping things simple is even better.

Emma going after "P's" toes... what?!  What are they teaching her at school!

Immediate nap after the party.  Tuckered out after chasing all of those boys!

  1. Looks like you had a wonderful brunch party :) It certainly seems a lovely way to entertain friends; casual, comfy and delicious...what could be better?!

  5. How fun for you to entertain in your new home and how lovely was your brunch.
Mmmmm...awaiting your White Cheddar and Chive Egg Strata recipe.
    Sweet dreams to Emma!

  6. The food looks great and your children are darling!

  7. Jenny,

This brunch looks perfect and I couldn't agree more about the importance of keeping things simple. The decor looks lovely in your home and it's also child friendly. You've done a nice job.

    Have a nice weekend.

  8. I love how you used milk bottles to serve orange juice! So cute! Is that fresh squeezed OJ?

  9. I can never get tired of a)looking at your site, your blogs and 2) MISS EMMA. She is soooo adorable. I know I need to come up with new adjectives - lol.

Ahhhh your food looks wonderful!! I've got to try the strata for sure. I've been following you for a couple months, and I completely love your posts and what you write about. Sometimes I have a question and want to comment, but I hesitate to ask (and end up saying nothing) because it seems like you never answer anyone's question/comment : (( Sorry!

Sophie - As a full time mom with a full time job, I do what I can to reply to comments, but as it is I put every single spare second into making the blog what it is for my readers. While I would love to have the luxury of time to answer every single comment, that is just not a reality for me at this point.

I love reading the comments, and love knowing how much people enjoy the posts that I write.

    2. Anonymous12:26 AM

I completely understand :)) I certainly don't mean that I'm asking you to respond to all comments (haha no), just if we have a specific question about something you've posted. Should we email you? Would that be a better way? Thanks, Jenny!

  11. Such sweet photos! I just love brunch. :)
