Emma & The Outer Banks of North Carolina

As a child, before our first summer vacation to the beach, we asked my Mom over and over again to tell us all about the ocean and the beach.

I can remember her telling us about how magical it is to feel the sand between your toes.

She described how soft the sand is compared to that in our sandbox...

and how the waves would come in to tickle your feet.

And that the water would be cold.  Really cold.

She said to always wear a hat and plenty of sunscreen... still to this day.

She said there is nothing quite like a day at the beach.

I don't think I'll ever get over waking up to the sound of the ocean outside my window...

...the way the sea air feels on my face,

Or going to sleep with the sound of crashing waves.

  1. Just found your blog through Lee Caroline.... It's truly a pleasure to read! Love the Outer Banks... We spent many family vacations in Nags Head, very fond memories. I also enjoyed reading about your honeymoon in Italy. We just returned last week from Italy and I wrote a post about it. In fact, I posted the exact same ceiling in the Vatican photo that you have included as well! Can't wait to try some of your recipes and I look forward to your new posts!

  3. How sweet! I know Emma is loving it (and I love her little polka dot swimsuit!) The Outer Banks is a neat place to visit...wish I could remember the good restaurant we ate at...seems like it was Owens - had been around a very long time. You should visit (if not stay at) the Sanderling Resort in Duck...beautiful place to see- and Duck has such a different vibe to me than the rest of the Outer Banks.

  6. There is nothing like the ocean to see, smell and play and then to go to sleep by. Reminiscent of our years on Cape Cod! Lucky for all of you, especially Emma who looks as happy as can be. Once you experience the East coast ocean you are always drawn back.

  8. Emma is just so sweet, beautiful photos. I am really lucky where I live as I am only a short walk from the beach but not such a sandy beach as this. Nevertheless it is lovely living near the ocean and hearing sea gulls overhead.

You have a wonderful blog and I often share links with my readers to some of your recipes and crafts.

    Lee ☺
